HOLEY SOLES Holey Soles are similar to Crocs but have a much truer size to fit ratio, consequently they offer a little better support in the arch and even have a raised toe grip like a Birkenstock. Both Jeff and I have been sampling two of their bright colors over the last few months and are so far quite pleased with the comfort and have noticed that the sole seems to last a bit longer than the croc product. RE:TURN OFF BIKES Last year Jeff, Ross and I tested some fantastic folding bikes that we found in Japan made by a company called Return:Off. We rode these bikes all over Japan and with six gears even the old man in the group was able to cruise up some pretty serious hills. The real beauty of these bikes is the ease with wich they fold; we carried them into hotels, through buisy Japanese train stations, and onto the trains themselves with no difficulty whatsoever. In thirty seconds these little bikes on their 16" wheels fold up into a package of a little more than a foot square and only 8" wide. BIRDY BIKES Another new bike product is the folding bike by Birdy, USA. These are based on a design by Reiss and Mueller of Germany and rather than having a joint on the top tube, these bikes hinge at the front and rear forks so that the wheels fold under the frame. A little more complicated to fold these bikes have a full suspension and 18" wheels and the ride can only be compared to a full - size touring bike, it's incredibly smooth. These bikes come in 8, 9, and 14 speed versions and consequently, can be used in almost any capacity a full size bike can offer you. Jeff saw the first of these suspended folders in Japan and has since obtained a Bianchi-branded version of this bike, the only one of its kind in the states right now. Its a celeste green beauty and he tested it on the streets of Rome and the steep hills of Positano on our most recent trip to Italy.
