ACA Instructor Development Workshop (IDW)
Part I (3 days)
The Instructor Development Workshop is the first part in the two-part program designed to evaluate participants on their readiness to be certified as instructors. This workshop will help prepare you for the exam should you decide to pursue the certification and at the very least, it is a great training course. Time will be spent on the water and in the classroom working on paddling skills, teaching skills, group management skills, rescue skills, and general leadership skills. You will have the opportunity to be taught and refine your technique as well as the opportunity to practice teach and present information that is relevant to your potential beginner audience and receive feedback from your peers and the Instructor Trainer on how you can improve in all areas. Pre-registration required.

Location: Orr's Island, Maine
May 16-18, 2008
Cost:
$350 per person for course registration by April 16th. After the 16th if there is still space, the cost is $450. Please see note below.

PLEASE NOTE:  In order to take part in the Instructor Certification Workshop, you must be a member of the ACA, a $40 annual membership fee, and upon being certified you must pay a $25 registration fee to the Safety, Education, and Instruction committee  (SEIC).  To join the ACA and for more details, please visit the American Canoe Association's website.

ACA Instructor Certification Exam (ICE)
Part II (3 days)
The Instructor Certification Exam is the second part in the two-part certification program and is designed to evaluate you on your readiness to be certified. The schedule for the workshop is designed to be very similar to the IDW, only there is more demonstrating and doing by you and less of the Instructor Trainer teaching. This is your opportunity to show the Instructor Trainer your level of competency needed for certification. Upon completion of this workshop, the Instructor Trainer will meet with you and inform you on the outcome of your performance. You may become certified, given a delayed status on your certification, or you may not receive the certification at all. The Instructor Trainer will outline for you developmental areas should one of the latter two outcomes exist for you. Pre-registration required.

Location: Orr's Island, Maine
May 31-June 2, 2008
Cost:
$350
for course registration by April 30th. Registration after April 30th is $450 if space is still available.

Lodging and meals are not included.  There are two campgrounds within 15-20 minutes and many motels or Bed & Breakfast options in the area.  Please visit the Midcoast Maine's Chamber of Commerce for lodging information in the area.

ACA Coastal Kayak Open Water

Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW)
(5 days)
The Open Water Certification workshop combines both the Development Workshop(Part I) and the Exam(Part II) into one course. The first half of the workshop focuses on helping you refine technique, teaching skills, group management skills, etc. while the second half of the course you are evaluated on these same things and then informed on the outcome of your performance at the end of it all. Because this course is a combination of the above two workshops there is very minimal time to improve upon the areas that you may need to work on before you are evaluated on these areas. It is best to come into this course having solid paddling skills, teaching experience, and knowledge of the sport. Pre-registration required.

Location:  James Island County Park campground in Charleston, SC

April 12-16, 2008

$600 per person for the course registration only. Candidates must register by March 12th to take the course for $600.  Registration after this date will be $800 if space is still available. Please see note below.
